FPS Thumbnail Maker

Paste the clip's YouTube link. ThumbnailMaker reads the video and makes the thumbnail around its best moment: the clutch, the last zone, the shot nobody expected, with the claim spelled right.

An FPS thumbnail sells one moment of the match. The clutch, the last zone, the shot across the map: one player in frame, big enough to read on a phone, with the claim in two or three words like 1V5 CLUTCH or NO SCOPE. Light it hard, a cold key light and one hot muzzle flash or explosion, so it stands out in a feed full of grey maps. Leave the HUD, the kill feed and the crosshair out: they turn into noise at feed size, and they say less than a face mid-callout. Keep 16:9 for the video, 9:16 for the clip you post as a Short, and the bottom-right corner clear for the duration badge.

How it works

You bring the a Warzone clip video. We make the thumbnail.

Here is one real thumbnail from this page, followed from the brief to the download.

  1. Your input

Paste the video's link, or describe it

The brief is written from the link for you, or you write the scene yourself. This one was one sentence: “A player-operator in a helmet and headset crouches behind a concrete barrier, rifle raised, a bright orange explosion lighting one side of his face, smoke and tracers across a ruined street at night”

  2. Words and style

The exact words, and a style

The words 1V5 CLUTCH, typed exactly as they should read. The Tactical Shooter style sets the framing, the light and the colours.

  3. Generated, then checked

Checked at the size of the feed

Every image is graded at 336 px, the width of a card in YouTube's feed. The words are read back and redrawn if a letter is wrong, and the bottom-right corner stays clear of the duration badge.

  4. Your thumbnail

Download it, or change it in a sentence

1280 × 720, or 4K. If it is close, describe the change ("make the title yellow") and the rest of the image stays as it is.

Built around how shooter videos actually get clicked

Clutches and 1vX rounds

The round that was lost until it wasn't. One player large in frame, focused or shouting, the threat implied by smoke and light rather than five enemies drawn small. The number carries the story: 1V4, 1V5, LAST ALIVE.

"An operator crouched behind a barrier, rifle up, an explosion lighting half his face, smoke across a ruined street" + 1V5 CLUTCH

Montages and highlight reels

A montage has no single scene, so the thumbnail picks one shot that stands for all of them: a muzzle flash, a rooftop, neon rain. The words name the skill, not the game: NO SCOPE, ONE TAP, FLICKS.

"An operator firing from a neon-lit rooftop at night, magenta signs in the rain, a muzzle flash lighting the scene" + NO SCOPE

Battle royale endings

Warzone, Apex, PUBG and Free Fire videos end in the last zone, and the storm wall is the most readable thing in the genre. A squad running from it says the stakes before the title does.

"Three squadmates sprinting through tall grass as a glowing storm wall closes in, a smoking supply crate" + LAST ZONE

Rank pushes and loadouts

Ranked videos sell the climb, loadout videos sell the weapon. For the climb, the player mid-celebration with the rank's colour in the light; for a loadout, the weapon itself, sharp and lit like a product, with the class name in the words.

"A player in a headset with both fists up, a violet glow behind him, a dark room" + RANKED

Mistakes that quietly kill FPS CTR

A raw gameplay screenshot

A frame grabbed from the match is mostly map: grey walls, a small enemy, the HUD in every corner. At feed size it reads as a picture of nothing. A composed scene with one subject reads in the half second a viewer gives it.

The HUD, the kill feed and the crosshair

They prove it's gameplay, which the title already says. Every icon takes space from the player and the words, and a kill feed is unreadable at 320 pixels wide.

Official agents, operators and skins

Lifting a game's key art or a named character's render is the publisher's artwork, and it makes your thumbnail look like everyone else's. An original operator in the same mood is yours, and you can upload your own gameplay frame to edit when the skin is the point.

Too many words

"I Clutched a 1v5 in Ranked With Only a Pistol" is a title. On the image, two or three words: 1V5 PISTOL. The rest belongs under the thumbnail.
